Design Artefacts: Towards a design-oriented epistemology
نویسنده
چکیده
The production of design-oriented knowledge cannot be dealt with fruitfully based on traditional epistemology. In this paper the concept of design artefacts is suggested as a possible backbone in a future design-oriented pragmatic epistemology. It is claimed that a general understanding of how design is mediated is a necessary first step in understanding the use and production of designoriented knowledge

Intellectual Artefacts of Expert Systems Meta-epistemology*
Essential to intelligent programs is computational epistemology. Expert systems, derive their computational epistemology from domain expertise. Construction of an expert system shell and an application requires a metaepistemology that transforms domain epistemology through a sequence of computational epistemology, shell epistemology; programming epistemology and application epistemology (as dis...
متن کاملFormalising Service-Oriented Design
Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) is an emerging paradigm for developing software systems that employ services. Presently there is already much research effort in the areas of service discovery and orchestration, business process modelling, and the semantic web. While these are all important aspects for moving towards the pervasive adoption of SOC, most existing work assumes the existence of bla...
متن کاملUnderstanding objects in use-oriented design
The paper is an investigation into the relation between use-oriented design and object-oriented methods. Based on the notions of historical crystallisation of praxis into artefacts, the concept of secondary artefacts, and the notion of boundary objects, it is argued that object-oriented descriptions should be understood as transformations of artefacts from the considered praxis rather than mode...
متن کاملThe Craft of Programming Interaction
The creation of useful artefacts with rich experiential qualities required quality driven interaction designers and programmers with the ability to simultaneous problem setting and problem solving. Interaction design is a design practice that defines the appearance and function of digital artefacts. Bridging interaction design and engineering is problematic because design and engineering have d...
متن کاملDesign for Learning in Use
This paper brings information systems design towards a focus on learning in use. Studying learning in use is a matter of focusing on the development of the designed artefact once the design process is over. Accordingly, designing for learnable artefacts is a matter of understanding and developing use, also when a computer-based artefact has been taken over by users. The paper presents a design-...
